PROMOTING FAIR COMPETITION AND CONSUMER PROTECTION THROUGH ACCESSIBLE JUSTICE
WHAT MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD EXPECT FROM THE COMPETITION TRIBUNAL OF KENYA AT THE 2026 ASK SHOWS
The Competition Tribunal of Kenya invites members of the public, businesses, consumers, investors, legal practitioners, and other stakeholders to visit its exhibition stand during the 2026 Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Shows in Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Kitale.
Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the Tribunal's mandate as an independent appellate body established under the Competition Act to hear and determine appeals and review applications arising from decisions of the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK).
The public will be sensitized on the Tribunal's role in promoting fair competition, protecting consumers, and ensuring efficient market operations. Information will be provided on how the Tribunal handles appeals and reviews relating to:
• Restrictive trade practices;
• Restrictive trade practices involving trade associations;
• Abuse of dominant market positions;
• Exemptions from certain restrictive trade practices;
• Abuse of buyer power;
• Mergers and acquisitions;
• Control of unwarranted concentration of economic power; and
• Consumer protection matters, including unconscionable business conduct and product safety standards.
Members of the public will also receive guidance on the procedures for filing appeals and review applications before the Tribunal, timelines involved, and the rights and obligations of parties appearing before it.
Through interactive engagements, educational materials, and one-on-one consultations, visitors will gain a better understanding of how the Tribunal contributes to a fair, competitive, and consumer-friendly marketplace.
